The scales are balanced

they don’t await trial

I miss an assignment due date

a pebble falls in the scale,

I fail a test I had been studying for

a larger stone falls in the scale,

My grades start to fall

a large rock falls in the scale,

I begin to worry that my best is not good enough

a boulder falls in the scale,

The scales are unbalanced

it becomes hard to remember when they weren’t,

Times when I felt balanced seem nonexistent

A random person makes my day

a small pebble is lifted from the scale,

My friend tells me that they are proud of me

a larger stone is lifted from the scale,

I finally open up to my friends about the pressure

a rock is lifted from the scale,

My friends talk to me and encourage me

a huge boulder is lifted,

The scales aren’t balanced but they’re hanging on,

I start to remember what it’s like to be balanced,

When I realize that I am enough

the weight of the world is lifted

and I finally become balanced.
